Head of Mining Engineering

Daan van Heerden
B.Ing (Min. Eng), M.Com (Business Admin), Dip. Data Metrics (Computer Science)
Daan van Heerden has 24 years experience in the mining industry. He has obtained significant experience in managing mining operations in South Africa and abroad, both underground and open cast for world class mining majors and for junior mining companies. He also has extensive experience in new business development locally and internationally being responsible for such activities in two major mining companies, one gold focused and the other platinum. He has experience in mining mergers & acquisitions (friendly and hostile) and related activities such as valuation, due diligence, finance structuring and change management required post the event. Daan has also made significant contributions in the areas of Ore Reserve Management and Mine Services Management with the purpose of improved mining productivity and reduced operating cost.

Mining Engineering Team

Willem Pretorius - Mining Engineer
N Dip Mining Engineering, B.Tech. Mining Engineering
Willem Pretorius started his career as a bursar at Anglo Platinum in 1999. He completed his National Diploma in Mining Engineering in 2001 and B-Tech Degree in Mining Engineering in 2003. Willem worked as an underground supervisor until June 2004, where he then joined a mining contractor as an Openpit Superintendent in the Mpumalanga Coalfields. Willem was involved in mine planning, long and short term, as well as drilling and blasting for the entire operation. Willem joined Minxcon in March 2007 and currently has 1 year's experience on Gemcom Surpac and has completed various underground and surface projects.
 
Mauritz Joubert - Mining Engineer
B.Eng (Mining)
Mauritz joined Minxcon in November 2007. Mauritz previously worked for Anglo Coal at Goedehoop Colliery where he gained extensive experience in a production environment. Mauritz currently designs mines on computer software Mine 2- 4D and assist on various projects at Minxcon.
 
Michiel Breed - Mining Engineer
B.Eng (Mining)

Michiel obtained his B.Eng (Mining) degree from University of Pretoria in 2004. Michiel joined the team of Mining Engineers at Minxcon in October 2008. He is currently working on a wide range of projects involved in mine design, mine operating cost and capital cost evaluation and estimation. While working for Anglocoal on Goedehoop Colliery he gained production and management experience while working in various positions in production.

 
Gerhardus Botha - Mining Engineer
B.Eng (Mining)

Gerhardus joined Minxcon in April 2008. He obtained his B.Eng (Mining) degree from the University of Pretoria in 2004. As a former Anglo Platinum and Murray and Roberts employee he worked in the Rustenburg area where he gained experience in production and shaft sinking. Since he joined Minxcon, he was contracted to the RSV team on BRPM projects and is currently contracted to the Kopano JV team on the Pandora 240 ktpm project. He is registered to start studying towards his M.Sc. (Mineral Resource Management) at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2009.
