M.Eng (Project Management)
Michiel obtained his B.Eng. Mining degree from and completed his M.Eng (Project Management) at the University of Pretoria, and is a registered professional engineer. As a member of AngloCoal, he gained production and management experience working in various positions in production.
He joined the team of mining engineers at Minxcon in October 2008. As a mining engineer, Michiel’s responsibilities include technical evaluations, first principle operating cost estimations, capital estimations, life of mine planning, pre- feasibility studies, feasibility studies and project management. He has worked on projects dealing with commodities such as coal, gold, uranium and platinum.
Neels started his career in 2001 as an Anglo Platinum bursar. He obtained his permanent blasting certificate in 2004 and was immediately appointed as a miner in a trackless mining section of Frank Shaft, Rustenburg, where he worked until December 2004. He then worked as a miner at Marula Platinum Mine near Steelpoort until January 2006, whereafter he acted as Shift Supervisor in a hybrid mining section. Neels was subsequently appointed as Shift Supervisor in January 2007, whereupon he became involved in mine planning, as well as drilling and blasting operations for his responsible section. He gained experience in mechanised and hybrid mining sections whilst at the Driekop Shaft of Marula Mine.
He held this position until July 2010, when he joined Minxcon. He is currently studying towards his National Diploma in Mining Engineering, which he intends to finish by the end of 2016. Whilst at Minxcon, Neels has completed various underground and surface projects.
Daan has worked in the mining industry for 30 years. He has a vast amount of experience in managing underground and opencast mining operations in South Africa and abroad for both world-class mining majors and junior mining companies. He managed new business development for two major mining companies, one gold, the other predominantly platinum. He has experience in mining mergers and acquisitions and related activities such as valuation, due diligence, finance structuring and subsequent change management. Daan has also contributed significantly to ore reserve management, technical services, productivity improvement and operating cost reduction.
He also has significant study and project management experience.
B.Eng. (Mechanical Engineering)
Jano obtained his B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering in 2009 from the North-West University of Potchefstroom in 2009.
His career commenced at Anglo Platinum as part of a Graduate Program where he gained practical exposure and experience.
Whilst completing the training program he spent time at Anglo American Greenside Colliery, at shaft sinking projects and operations with boilers and mills. He gained valuable management experience and exposure to trackless mining, conventional mining, concentrator plants and smelters.
Upon completion of the Graduate Program, Jano was appointed as Section Engineer at Anglo American’s Tumela Mine, where he was in general charge of all machinery, including design, installation and maintenance thereof.
Jano has joined the Minxcon team in 2015 and his role involves mine infrastructure & design and capital estimation & scheduling, as well as quality assurance and project management.
Wilhelm is a mining engineer with six years’ experience in the mining industry. He worked for various internationally acclaimed companies and has recently joined Minxcon as a mining engineer.
Wilhelm has completed his underground coal blasting certificate and gained coal mining experience as a miner at Khutala Colliery. He then joined Hatch Goba whereby he gained experience in mine planning, supplier engagement, production scheduling and operational cost estimating. During his time with Hatch Goba he was involved with Order of Magnitude Studies, Pre-Feasibility Studies and Feasibility Study. During his time with VBKOM Consulting Engineers he gained experience in open pit mine design and scheduling. Wilhelm has experience in operating various mining software, namely Mine 2-4D, Studio Planner, EPS Scheduler, Deswik and Deswik Scheduler, Surpac and Mineshed.

Dario has been involved in the Metallurgical and Mining Industry for over 38 years. He started his career with JCI in the platinum and base metal refineries. He later held management positions in the Gold and Uranium divisions. He also spent five years in Europe where he co-managed the Tungsten and Tin operations owned by Anglo American and was also the project leader of an EU sponsored program to recover metals from tailings dams throughout Europe. Before returning to SA he was consulting metallurgist for an RTZ Copper/tin mine in Portugal. He was the Group metallurgist for Harmony and later became the General Manager of an open cast gold mining operation.
He is currently working on a wide range of projects which include plant designs, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, competent persons reports (CPR) and operational and technical consulting in a wide range of commodities which includes precious metals and base metals as well as coal and industrial minerals. Dario has broad range experience in the metallurgical industry locally and abroad in both processing, engineering and management of plants and mines.
B.Eng. Chemical Engineering
B.Eng. Honours (M. O.T.)
Julian joined Minxcon Projects, which forms part of the Minxcon group, as a Process Engineer. He is responsible for the project management within Minxcon Projects with his skills directed at the metallurgical discipline in all projects that involve processing or refining of commodities.
He is currently working on a wide range of projects in the platinum, precious and base metals industries. Julian has experience in process control and optimisation as well as project management of platinum (PGM) and base metals (BM) commercial projects.
Furthermore, Julian has an R&D background in process control in the PGM and BM industries.
Operational Management – Process Optimisation and Control
Mardus has 26 years’ experience in gold plants. He has vast experience in crushing, milling, floatation, thickening, leaching and all processes associated with gold recovery and smelting.
He has also managed operating plants and has been involved in commissioning of new plants which includes training and implementation of management systems and gold plant management.
His current position at Minxcon Projects is that of metallurgical consultant and has been involved in implementing Short Interval Control at various plants, as well as doing audits and implementing best practice systems.
