
Daan van Heerden
Director, Mining Engineering

Daan is Co-founder and Director of Minxcon. He is a qualified mining engineer with over 35 years’ experience in the mining industry. He has a vast amount of experience in managing underground and opencast mining operations in South Africa and abroad for both world-class mining majors and junior mining companies. He managed new business development for two major mining companies, one gold, the other predominantly platinum. He has experience in mining mergers and acquisitions and related activities such as valuation, due diligence, finance structuring and subsequent change management. Daan has also contributed significantly to ore reserve management, technical services, productivity improvement and operating cost reduction.
He also has significant study and project management experience.

Jano Visser
Mechanical Engineer
B.Eng. (Mechanical Engineering)
Jano obtained his B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering in 2009 from the North-West University of Potchefstroom in 2009.
His career commenced at Anglo Platinum as part of a Graduate Program where he gained practical exposure and experience.
Whilst completing the training program he spent time at Anglo American Greenside Colliery, at shaft sinking projects and operations with boilers and mills. He gained valuable management experience and exposure to trackless mining, conventional mining, concentrator plants and smelters.
Upon completion of the Graduate Program, Jano was appointed as Section Engineer at Anglo American’s Tumela Mine, where he was in general charge of all machinery, including design, installation and maintenance thereof.
Jano has joined the Minxcon team in 2015 and his role involves mine infrastructure & design and capital estimation & scheduling, as well as quality assurance and project management.

Christiaan Muller
Mechanical Engineer
N.Dip. (Mechanical Engineering)
Christiaan obtained his National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the Tshwane University of Technology in 2017. Once he graduated, he was employed as a contract manager by CMTI Consulting implementing mining machinery (XLP sweepers and drill rigs) at gold and platinum operations. In 2018, he was employed by ElectroWeb where he was mainly in charge of 3D design drawings and redesigning of electrical products and components in the mining and safety, as well as electrical LED lighting industries. Christiaan joined the Minxcon team in January 2019 as a junior mechanical engineer, consulting on various mining projects and a variety of commodities. He has valuable experience in manufacturing, mechanical design and mechanical draughting.

Roelof van der Colff
Mining Engineer
B.Eng (Mining), M.Eng (Project Management)
Roelof joined the team at Minxcon in June 2018 as a Mining Engineer. His duties at Minxcon include Mine Design and scheduling, life of mine estimations, Feasibility Studies and acting as a Project Leader in designated projects. Roelof completed his BEng Mining Engineering degree in 2015. Commencing his career as a learner miner, he then completed his National Certificate in mining operations underground for coal in 2017. As a miner at Balindi Mining on Forzando South Colliery he gained production experience. He was later a Mining Engineer Intern for Exxaro Coal central, and had the opportunity to work with a variety of Mine Managers gaining a wide range of skills in an open cast operation. He has supervisory and management experience for coal mining operations.

Eben Jansen
Process Engineer
B.Eng (Mining)
Eben has experience in mineral processing plant design, plant optimisation, research and development, commissioning and project execution. He gained metallurgical process experience from Iscor working in steelmaking as well as its research division. Moving then to the USA, work focused on metallurgical processing of titanium and steel forgings and rings as well as aluminium rings. Under later companies, his work centred around grinding media, comminution, and mineral process plant optimisation, including open pit blasting improvements. His specific mineral experience includes gold, iron, PGM and diamond processing. As a Process Engineer at Minxcon, he is responsible for leading process engineering work with his skills directed at the metallurgical discipline in all projects that involve processing from metallurgical accounting reviews to feasibility studies and on-site optimisation.

Danel Weideman
Mine Planner/ Mining Engineer
M.Eng (Mining Engineering)
Danel joined the team at Minxcon in July 2023 as a Mine Planner and Mining Engineer. Her duties at Minxcon include mine design and scheduling, life of mine estimations, feasibility studies and mine optimisations. Danel completed her BEng Mining Engineering degree in 2019, continuing to complete her Honours and Masters degrees (cum laude) in mining engineering specialising in rock engineering. She gained practical experience in both manganese and chrome commodities. She formed part of a team conducting research for the Mandela Mining Precinct regarding mechanised mining equipment for NRHR mines and conducting pillar optimisation studies for Assmang

Dario Clemente
Associate - Metallurgist Projects
(NHD Ext. Met. Wits, GCC, BLDP (WBS), MMMA, FIMM),.
Dario has been involved in the Metallurgical and Mining Industry for over 38 years. He started his career with JCI in the platinum and base metal refineries. He later held management positions in the Gold and Uranium divisions. He also spent five years in Europe where he co-managed the Tungsten and Tin operations owned by Anglo American and was also the project leader of an EU sponsored program to recover metals from tailings dams throughout Europe. Before returning to SA he was consulting metallurgist for an RTZ Copper/tin mine in Portugal. He was the Group metallurgist for Harmony and later became the General Manager of an open cast gold mining operation.
He is currently working on a wide range of projects which include plant designs, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, competent persons reports (CPR) and operational and technical consulting in a wide range of commodities which includes precious metals and base metals as well as coal and industrial minerals. Dario has broad range experience in the metallurgical industry locally and abroad in both processing, engineering and management of plants and mines.

Marnus van Tonder
Mine Planner
Marnus joined the Minxcon team in April 2024 as a Mine Planner. His duties at Minxcon include mine design and scheduling, life of mine estimations, feasibility studies and open pit optimisations. Marnus started in the Vaal Reefs deep level underground mine as a Learner Surveyor and had the opportunity to obtain experience in all the relevant departments from MRM, engineering to mining (stoping and development). After a year, he moved to Planning and have been in Mine Planning, gaining experience from Deep level Gold to Platinum Shallow mining Projects to Underground deep level Platinum. He was involved in Head office workshops to convert a project into a running shaft producing tonnes to save on capital. After 14 Years in the Underground mining sector, he went for a new challenge in the Mineral sands Rutile mining sector in Sierra Leone as an expatriate. There, he gained experience in a PFS drilling campaign from green fields to DFS, also running with the life of mine plans

Willem Botha
Mining Engineer
B.Eng (Mining)
Willem joined the Minxcon team in August 2025 as a Mining Engineer. His duties at Minxcon include mine design and scheduling, life of mine estimations, feasibility studies and open pit optimisations. He holds a Mining Engineering degree from the University of Pretoria and has built a career marked by technical expertise and project leadership in the mining sector. His experience includes serving as a Production Manager at an opencast coal mine, where he oversaw short- and medium-term mine planning to optimise operations. He went on to manage a R120 million bulk earthworks contract for the world’s largest lined tailings facility, taking sole responsibility for the project’s bulk earth works. At Mafube Coal, he worked as a Project Engineer, ensuring the rehabilitation of environmental pans met strict engineering specifications and standards. His background reflects a proven ability to lead complex projects, maintain operational efficiency, and deliver results in high-stakes mining environments.
